About Our School
East Antigonish Education Centre/Academy is located on the Old number 4 Highway 10128, about 1km from the TransCanada Highway in Monastery, Nova Scotia. The school is a Primary to Grade 12 facility and was one of the P-3 schools built in 2000. The new school was built on the site of the old Antigonish East 7-12 junior and senior high school. The new school combined three former community schools: Havre Boucher Consolidated, Tracadie Consolidated and Antigonish East High School. The school shares services with Eastern County Libraries, County Recreation and the Head Start Preschool Program. Our building is a community access school: it has a Cap site which is open to the public in the evenings. Athletic activities and a religious education program also are held in the building during the evenings. Occasionally the school is rented to other organizations for meetings, courses or seminars.
Our school population is currently 474. We have enjoy students who come from a variety of cultural backgrounds: Mi’Kmaq, Acadian, Scottish, African Canadian and English. The percentage of Native students attending our school is one of the highest in the province. We are a rural, racially diverse school with approximately 100% of our population of 474 being bussed. The school serves the communities of Aulds Cove, East Havre Boucher, Havre Boucher, Cape Jack, Frankville, West Havre Boucher, Linwood, Monastery, Mattie Settlement, Merland, Upper Big Tracadie, Tracadie, Afton and Paq’tnkek Reserve.
